A high efficiency collector with a vacuum space between absorber and cover in order to reduce convection losses

Vacuum collectors are highly efficient since heat will not be conduct through a vacuum. The heat exchanger liquid flows through tubes contained inside vacuumized glass jackets and these jackets are joined to a central manifold that directs heated liquid to the storage container.

The principal component in a vacuum tube solar collector is the evacuated glass enclosure which consists of two concentric glass cylinders.

Terne coated sheet is any sheet steel that has been coated by immersion in a bath of molten terne metal. Terne metal is an alloy of lead and tin. Sheet steel coated with terne metal is duller in appearance than sheet steel coated with tin alone, and it is this feature of the product that gave rise to the name "terne" - meaning "dull".
