The "World Men's Curling Championship" (singular because only one men's team is crowned champion) is named after the sponsor of the event or the trophy given. The World Men's Curling Championship began in 1959 as a competition between the Canadian and Scottish national champions for the "Scotch Cup" (1959-1967). The event became the "Air Canada Silver Broom" or simply the "Silver Broom" (or "Air Canada Silver Broom World Curling Championship," "Air Canada World Curling Championship," or "Silver Broom World Curling Championship") from 1968 to 1985, years during which the Silver Broom Trophy was given to the winner. Different sponsors or the lack of a main sponsor account for the following names: "Hexagon World Curling Championships" from 1986 to 1988, "World Curling Championships" in 1989 and 1990, "Canada Safeway World Curling Championships" in 1991 and 1992, again the "World Curling Championships" in 1993 and 1994, and the "Ford World Curling Championships" since 1995. 1, record 14, English, - World%20Men%27s%20Curling%20Championships

The expression "World Men's Curling Championship" is singular when only one champion is crowned, which was the case for the curling competition from 1959 to 1978. Since 1979, the plural form "World Curling Championships" is used because the same competition determines the winner in the men's, senior men's, women's and senior women's categories; this generic designation was and will be used every time no official sponsor gives its name to the event. Nevertheless, "World Men's Curling Championship" is still appropriate to distinguish the men's event inside the "World Curling Championships.". 1, record 14, English, - World%20Men%27s%20Curling%20Championships

The greatest of the international soccer competitions representing world supremacy in the sport. It is open to any country that is affiliated with FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), and the finals are played every four years, between the Summer Olympic Games' years. The competition is essentially open, but each nation is generally represented by its best professional players. The entries (more than 100) are reduced to 14 teams by a series of regional play-offs; along with the defending champions and the host country, they make up the final 16. The final rounds are played in the host country over a period of about three weeks. The trophy itself is won permanently by any national team that is victorious 3 times. 3, record 16, English, - FIFA%20World%20Cup

3, record 46, French, - Coupe%20du%20monde

The organized offender often takes personal items belonging to his victims as trophies.... Wallets, jewelry, class rings, articles of clothing, photograph albums - all of these, once belonging to victims, have been found in the dwelling places of organized killers after their arrests. Usually, these are not items of intrinsic value, ... but, rather, items that are used to recall the victim. These trophies are taken for incorporation in the offender's postcrime fantasies and as acknowledgment of his accomplishments. [The] organized murderer looks at a necklace hanging in his closet and keeps alive the excitement of his crime. Many take photographs of their crimes for the same purpose. Sometimes trophies of the crime, such as jewelry, are given to the killer's wife or girlfriend or mother, so that when she wears it, only the killer knows its significance. 2, record 70, English, - trophy
