A conical hill of glaciofluvial material formed in a large circular hole (moulin) in glacier ice.

CONT

A kame is a deposit, composed largely of material sorted by moving water in the glacial stream and is formed when in direct contact with glacier ice. A moulin kame occurs when the glacial stream falls into a vertical shaft in the glacier, loses momentum and drops the debris it was carrying in one fell swoop.

Le chercheur moscovite a également filtré de l’air (pour étudier la composition et la provenance des particules biologiques transportées par les courants aériens), mesuré l’efficacité de la photosynthèse avec un fluorimètre et prélevé des échantillons de cryoconites (poches d’eau fondue à cause de la présence de poussières sombres absorbant la chaleur du soleil isolées sous la surface de la glace). «Les cryoconites intéressent l’astrobiologie qui s’interroge sur la possibilité d’une vie sous la glace sur des planètes comme Mars.»
