A method ... for breaking down coal by compressed air. Air at a pressure of 10,000 to 12,000 pounds per square inch is conveyed in a steel pipe to a tube or shell inserted in a shothole. The air is admitted by opening a shooting valve and is released in the hole by the rupture of a shear pin or disc. The sudden expansion of the air in the confined hole breaks down the coal.

"Bulling" or chambering of holes. The bottom of a small diameter borehole (such as diamond drill or wagon drill hole) may be enlarged by lighting and dropping a gelatine dynamite safety fuse primer into the hole. The burden is of course, too great for this small charge to break the ground. Its effect is to pulverize the rock in the vicinity and to expel it from the mouth of the hole in the form of dust. Meanwhile, the bottom of the hole has been increased in diameter in the form of a bulbous-shaped chamber, which will then accommodate a larger quantity of explosive. Care should be taken to allow the bottom of the hole to cool down before adding further explosives. The operation is variously called "bulling" or "chambering" or "springing". The method has been used chiefly in quarry work on bench holes.

An appliance for loosening coal by means of high-pressure water and oil. It consists of a round stainless steel bar with small telescopic rams acting on a steel liner in a shothole. The bar is connected to a hand- or power-operated pump placed near the face. The high-pressure liquid from the pump causes the rams and liner to exert a pressure sufficient to loosen or break down the coal. It is a safe method of coal breaking without the use of explosives. It has not, however, made the progress originally anticipated.

On laisse sortir du trou de mine environ 50cm de cordeau, et toutes les mines seront ensuite amorcées, soit avec des détonateurs, soit mieux avec un cordeau maître, qui sera lui-même amorcé avec un détonateur. Le tir au cordeau détonant peut ainsi se faire avec l'emploi d’un seul détonateur. Les raccordements de cordeaux secondaires sur le cordeau principal peuvent être soit tangentiels(bien faire attention que l'onde explosive ne rebrousse pas), soit perpendiculaires avec connexion, ou avec torsade, ou avec raccord détonant.

OBS

Remarque : à l’étranger, et en particulier sur le continent nord-américain, le type d’amorçage précédent est réalisé par des cordeaux à charge de pentrite encore plus faible (...) reliés à leur extrémité à des détonateurs pyrotechniques spéciaux. Les détonateurs en fond de trou peuvent initier des boosters qui amorcent les explosifs peu sensibles. Ces dispositifs ne sont pas compatibles avec la réglementation française.

Relais de détonation ou microconnecteurs.-Chaque cordeau d’un trou de mine peut être amorcé par un détonateur à faible retard, ou encore par un cordeau maître, qui sera bien sûr lui-même amorcé par un détonateur. Dans ce cas, les retards entre trous peuvent être réalisés par la mise en place de relais de détonation insérés sur le cordeau maître(cordeau renfermant 10 ou 12 g/m de pentrite) entre chaque trou de mine. Ces relais sont constitués d’un tube d’aluminium dans lequel se trouve une poudre retardatrice entre deux charges explosives. Ils existent en France avec deux retards, 20 et 50 ms, mais la précision du retard est moins bonne que celle des détonateurs électriques. Dans d’autres pays, la gamme est plus large.
