Roughness length z0 is a measure of the roughness of the surface. It is not normally measured directly, but is defined as the height at which the wind speed becomes zero. It is generally not the same as surface height. For example z0 for a forest is always greater than z0 for short grass. ... From the point of view of surface layer ground based measurements, z0 is useful in estimating the effect of the ground on the flow. Especially, large values of z0 give larger mean eddy sizes ... 5, record 19, English, - roughness%20length

4, record 19, French, - longueur%20de%20rugosit%C3%A9
