Cyber resilience is the ability to anticipate, withstand, recover from, and adapt to adverse conditions and compromises on systems that use or are enabled by cyber resources. A cyber resilience approach considers security from a system of systems perspective and recognizes this complexity in planning and response. Collaboration between the elements of a system, like computing platforms, networks, business applications, people, and processes are fundamental to this approach. 1, record 1, English, - cyber%20resilience%20approach

1, record 1, French, - approche%20ax%C3%A9e%20sur%20la%20cyberr%C3%A9silience

Disinfection process, mainly with chlorine, to prevent microbiological contamination of water can lead to the formation of hazardous disinfection by-products (DBPs) due to the reaction of chlorine with natural organic matter (NOM) present in the water. ... Beyond specific health based thresholds, DBPs can represent a public health issue due to the potential chronic risk of adverse effects on human health (e.g., cancer, reproductive and developmental effects) and the high prevalence of exposure. Thus, DBPs constitute an important concern for water systems, especially systems supplied by surface waters. ... Recently, a technique known as differential UV [ultraviolet] absorbance (DUVA) has been developed that could provide a sensitive and highly specific indicator for DBP formation resulting from chlorination. 2, record 2, English, - differential%20UV%20absorbance

8, record 7, French, - t%C3%A9l%C3%A9d%C3%A9tection%20en%20hyperfr%C3%A9quences%20passives

Consent secured by force or threat of force is not acceptable, nor is consent extracted from someone who is under the influence of drugs. Mere economic duress, however, is not sufficient to obliterate an otherwise valid consent, but this conclusion is increasingly under attack. ... Young children cannot give a valid consent. Their parents must do so on their behalf. ... In Johnston v. Wellesley Hospital, a 20-year-old underwent an acne treatment by a dermatologist when the age of majority was 21 years. Radiation damage in solids … Because the particles … have different energies and different ranges, the distance from the site of formation to the region where they cause damage is different. Thus, the size of the fissile kernels itself (also called inclusions) embedded in the inert matrix material becomes an important factor in determining the regions of damage in a material. To this end a distinction is made between a microdispersed and a macrodispersed fuel. A fuel is called microdispersed if the size of the fissile inclusions is less than 10 [micrometers], and otherwise is called macrodispersed. Microdispersed fuels can be produced either by infiltration or by compression of a mixture of matrix grains and fissile grains, while macrodispersed fuels can be produced by compression only. The damage effects in microdispersed fuels will approach those in a solid solution, while the radiation effects in macrodispersed fuels will mainly occur in the inclusions themselves and in a thin matrix layer around the inclusion, predominantly due to neutron damage. 1, record 39, English, - microdispersed%20fuel

Respirators of this design selectively remove particles or vapours from contaminated air. Since they do not carry their own oxygen supply, they can be used only in areas where enough oxygen is available. Their use is also restricted by the concentration of the toxicant to be filtered from the air, the respiratory rate of the user, air temperature, and the internal holding capacity of the filter canister or cartridge. Two types are commonly used: mechanical filter respirators, and chemical cartridge and canister respirators. 1, record 45, English, - air%20purifier%20respirator

Emerging Threats: Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Terrorism. The threat of terrorist or criminal use of nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) weapons in Canada is considered low; however, the potential consequences of such an event could be so significant that national capabilities may be called upon to support local responders. 1, record 58, French, - terrorisme%20nucl%C3%A9aire%2C%20biologique%20et%20chimique

The primary purpose of testing is to obtain information to help make inferences about an examinee's performance on a behavior domain of interest. Achieving this purpose depends upon good judgment at each of the five steps in the testing process: construction, selection, administration, scoring and interpretation. ... While good administration procedures are essential for successful testing, one must bear in mind that test administration is but one link in the chain of testing practice. It is important to prevent wear of contact strip by arc during current collection and corrugate trolley wires. It is a key subject to ensure dynamic stability of the system for speed-up. For this purpose, the strength of trolley wire has been increased. Improvement of anti-arc properties and reduction of weight of sliders are also useful.

3, record 83, French, - galerie%20filtrante

Very High Gravity Fermentation (VHGF). The VHGF process under development at the University of Saskatchewan used a balance of nutrients, temperature control, oxygen and substrate improvement to achieve ethanol concentrations in the 15 - 24% range. This was a considerable improvement over the 12% normally seen in the fuel ethanol industry. The advantages include a reduction in water use, increased plant capacity, fewer microbe contaminants in the fermentation, and lower energy requirements during distillation.
