Total greenhouse gas emissions come from several sources. Some result from natural processes ... But most global greenhouse gas emissions come from anthropogenic sources—meaning they result from human activity ... since the Industrial Revolution, human activities have significantly increased the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere. As they remain for years or even centuries, they amplify the greenhouse effect and cause global temperatures to rise, making greenhouse gas emissions a leading cause of global climate change. 2, record 1, English, - greenhouse%20gas%20emissions

The prerequisite for glasses and glass-ceramics to bond to living bone is the formation of biologically active bonelike apatite on their surfaces in the body. Our previous study showed that a silica gel prepared by a hydrolysis and polycondensation of tetraethoxysilane in aqueous solution containing poly(ethylene glycol) induces apatite nucleation on its surface in a simulated body fluid. In the present study, the effects of heat treatment of silica gel on its catalytic effects in apatite nucleation was investigated in a simulated body fluid. It was found that apatite forms on the surfaces of silica gels heat-treated below 800 C, but not on those heat-treated above 900 C. The volume of nanometer-range pores in the gel remarkably decreased by heat treatment above 900 C. The concentration of silanol groups in the silica gels gradually decreased with increasing heat treatment temperature. The rate of silica dissolution from the gel into the simulated body fluid decreased remarkably by heat treatment above 900 C. This suggested that a special type of silanol group which is formed by soaking the gel treated below 800 C into the simulated body fluid is responsible for apatite nucleation. 3, record 10, English, - simulated%20body%20fluid

Researchers at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, a facility operated for the U.S. Department of Energy, are developing novel techniques for synthesis and processing of advanced materials for energy, aerospace, and defense applications. One technique under investigation is referred to as combustion synthesis, reaction synthesis, or self-propagating high temperature synthesis. In this processing approach, powders are mixed together, so when heated they will undergo a spontaneous exothermic reaction to produce the desired compound. Advantages of the process include the use of inexpensive starting materials, less energy consumption because of lower processing temperatures and shorter processing times, and the ability to produce materials with unique microstructures and properties. 1, record 19, English, - self%2Dpropagating%20high%2Dtemperature%20synthesis

Ageing occurs, and can be studied, at different levels of complexity from the molecular through the cellular to the organismal. The question of ageing of protein molecules, manifested in the deamidation of asparagine and glutamine residues or conformational changes up to denaturation during their life span is controversial. With some enzymes age-related changes could be detected whereas no such changes were found with others.... In order to arrive at meaningful conclusions it appears necessary to consider the systematic nature of ageing, the alterations in the various macromolecular and enzyme organizational patterns. 3, record 22, English, - ageing

In international rivers that form the boundary between two countries, the middle of the principal channel (Thalweg) is considered the boundary line. For rivers flowing through two or more countries and navigable from the open sea, the authority to regulate and control navigation and other river uses has been a subject of dispute. For some rivers, special regulatory bodies have been established. 1, record 41, English, - international%20river
