Scuttling is the deliberate sinking of a ship by allowing water to flow into the hull. This can be achieved in several ways—seacocks or hatches can be opened to the sea, or holes may be ripped into the hull with brute force or with explosives. Scuttling may be performed to dispose of an abandoned, old, or captured vessel; to prevent the vessel from becoming a navigation hazard; as an act of self-destruction to prevent the ship from being captured by an enemy force (or, in the case of a vessel engaged in illegal activities, by the authorities); as a blockship to restrict navigation through a channel or within a harbor; to provide an artificial reef for divers and marine life; or to alter the flow of rivers. 2, record 6, English, - scuttling

2, record 6, French, - sabordage

Record number: 9, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Banyan was originally meant as a meatless day and therefore unpopular in the 17th century British navy. The origin of the term is derived from the the Banians, a caste of Hindus in India, who abstained from eating meat as a reverence for life. Banyan days gradually changed from meagre to much more pleasant ones. There are three constants for a banyan: it is always a fun occasion, it is held outdoors and the emphasis is on good food, good drink and good fellowship; something along the line of the old-fashioned picnic. 3, record 9, English, - banyan

1, record 9, French, - banyan

The Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources came into force in 1982, as part of the Antarctic Treaty System. It was established mainly in response to concerns that an increase in krill catches in the Southern Ocean could have a serious effect on populations of krill and other marine life; particularly on birds, seals and fish which mainly depend on krill for food. The aim of the Convention is to conserve marine life. This does not exclude harvesting as long as such harvesting is carried out in a rational manner. 2, record 13, English, - Convention%20on%20the%20Conservation%20of%20Antarctic%20Marine%20Living%20Resources

1, record 13, French, - Convention%20sur%20la%20conservation%20de%20la%20faune%20et%20de%20la%20flore%20marines%20de%20l%26rsquo%3BAntarctique
