Record 1 2014-11-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Airframe
  • Aircraft Maneuvers
DEF

An auxiliary tab mounted on a flight control surface trailing edge to generate aerodynamic force.

CONT

Trim tabs are usually controlled from the cockpit by the pilot and are generally actuated manually or electrically.

CONT

Trim tabs [may be] adjusted on the ground before taking off. Trim tabs are installed on elevators, rudders, and ailerons.

Domaine(s)
  • Cellule d'aéronefs
  • Manœuvres d'aéronefs
DEF

Record 2 2010-04-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Airframe
  • Aircraft Maneuvers
OBS

... in order to trim an elevator to hold the nose down, the elevator's trim tab will actually rise up into the slipstream. The increased pressure on top of the trim tab surface caused by raising it will then deflect the entire elevator slab down slightly, causing the tail to rise and the aircraft's nose to move down. In the case of an aircraft where deployment of high-lift devices (flaps) would significantly alter the longitudinal trim, a supplementary trim tab is arranged to simultaneously deploy with the flaps so that pitch attitude is not markedly changed.

OBS

elevator trim tab: term standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Cellule d'aéronefs
  • Manœuvres d'aéronefs
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Air Forces
  • Aircraft Airframe
  • Aircraft Maneuvers
CONT

Tabs are small secondary flight control surfaces set into the trailing edges of the primary surfaces. They are used for trimming the aircraft for straight and level flight at cruising speeds or for providing an assist for the pilot in moving the control surfaces. In the first case they are called trim tabs and in the second case, control or servo tabs.

Domaine(s)
  • Forces aériennes
  • Cellule d'aéronefs

DEF

OBS
