The flap position indicator shows the current position of the flaps. The flaps do not automatically move to pre-defined positions, but are commanded up or down by the pilot. When the flaps reach the desired position, the switch is released.

Les volets sont commandés par une manette se déplaçant devant un secteur cranté, les positions sont : rentré, approche, décollage, atterrissage. La position est contrôlée par un répétiteur sur la planche de bord. Dans certains cas une timonerie relie les volets des côtés gauche et droit évitant ainsi toute sortie dissymétrique. Il peut être prévu une alarme stoppant automatiquement le mouvement de tout le système de volets.
