An important improvement in the Wei T'o system was the replacement of the effective deacidification agent, magnesium methoxide, by methoxy magnesium methyl carbonate (mmmc). This replacement resulted in the reduction of several undesirable side effects such as a white deposit on the surface of the treated paper and clogging of the spray guns.

Plusieurs méthodes de désacidification de masse ont été proposées au cours des deux dernières décennies et certains systèmes font actuellement l'objet de travaux de développement. Cependant, le seul procédé appliqué avec succès sur une période prolongée est celui de la Bibliothèque nationale et des Archives nationales, le procédé Wei T’o. Ce procédé consiste à saturer les livres d’une solution de carbonate méthylique de méthoxymagnésium(MMMC) dans un mélange de fréons, puis à laisser le solvant s’évaporer. La solution alcaline de MMMC neutralise d’abord l'acide contenu dans le papier, puis le résidu alcalin laissé par l'évaporation du solvant forme, jusqu'à son épuisement, un tampon empêchant l'acidification du papier.
