À Djouba, la capitale, il existe un arabe créolisé appelé «arabe de Djouba», dérivé de l'arabe soudanais parlé au nord. L'arabe de Djouba est souvent utilisé comme langue véhiculaire dans le sud du pays, notamment en Équatoria. Ce créole arabe est incompréhensible à un locuteur de l'arabe soudanais et totalement inaccessible à un locuteur de l'arabe standard.
