Se usa principalmente en la elaboración de dulces de cacahuate y una buena cantidad se vende como cacahuate salado y para la elaboración de crema de cacahuate. Tiene mayor contenido de aceite que otros tipos de cacahuate, lo cual es una ventaja cuando se usa para extraer aceite. Se cultiva principalmente en Oklahoma y Texas. El cacahuate español representa el 4% de la producción estadounidense.
