The small group task for Tuesday morning was to develop a list of key components and characteristics of effective collaboration through addressing a specific scenario based on a real issue. Participants started this task with a creative brainstorming technique called "mind mapping" in which you write down as many facets of a subject as you can, linking the ideas together through theme lines. The following mind map was created for a scenario on preventing chronic disease.

Classement des idées de solution. Entre toutes les idées éparses qui ont été émises, il faut donc trouver un lien, ou mieux établir un ordre. Pour cela, on cherchera à regrouper les idées qui relèvent du même concept : et ainsi on arrivera à des paquets de deux ou trois idées comparables. Puis, dans un deuxième temps, on cherchera à découvrir les ressemblances qui existent entre ces concepts; et, en procédant de la même façon que pour les idées, on fera des paquets de concepts. On créera ainsi autant de niveaux qu'il sera nécessaire pour qu'on arrive au concept dominant qui regroupera tous les autres et coïncidera avec l'objet de la recherche. [...] Pratiquement, un tel classement peut revêtir la forme d'un tableau à double entrée; souvent, on adoptera la forme plus souple de l'arbre conceptuel.

Les circonstances dans lesquelles ces techniques sont utilisées peuvent varier à l'infini. Aussi, le cas échéant, d'autres solutions terminologiques plus spécifiques pourront aussi être retenues. Par exemple "trame conceptuelle" qui reprend l'idée du tissage d'un lien entre les solutions (webbing en anglais) ou "schéma conceptuel" qui s'apparente la représentation graphique de l'urbaniste.
