A cable network architecture wherein optical fibres radiate outwards from the head end or a point on a fibre-ring (a "node") to local networks serving a neighbourhood or subdivision. This is similar to the "switched-star" architecture of telephone systems - however, in the telephone case, each wire (twisted pair) serves an individual subscriber.
