With the challenging snow and ice landscapes of Canada in mind, Joseph-Armand Bombardier developed 7 and 12 passenger half-track autoneiges in the 1930s, starting what would become eventually the Bombardier industrial conglomerate. The Bombardier half-tracks had tracks for propulsion in the back and skis for steering in the front. The skis could be replaced by wheels in the summer, but this was not very common. 3, record 2, English, - snowmobile

The first seven production snowmobiles emerge from the new factory in the winter of 1936-37. They carry the name B7 - B for Bombardier and 7 for the number of passengers - and are well received by customers. 2, record 2, English, - snowmobile

Autoneige (half track) : Véhicule qu'on a vu surtout à partir des années 1930. Il avait une traction au sol à partir de chenilles avec des travers de métal ou bien une chenille en caoutchouc et possédait un ou plusieurs skis pour la direction. Face aux problèmes du transport hivernal, ce dernier [Joseph-Armand Bombardier] réussit en 1937 la mise au point d'un véhicule à chenille, soit l'autoneige, un B-7 communément appelé snowmobile, capable de circuler sur la neige et de transporter sept passagers.
