Les biothérapiques sont produits à partir de souches non chimiquement définies, sécrétions, excrétions pathologiques ou non, certains produits d'origine microbienne. Certains sont obtenus à partir de sérums ou vaccins, comme influenzinum; d'autres à partir de culture de microbes, par exemple Colibacillinum; d'autres encore sont obtenus en prélevant des éléments pathogènes sur des malades atteints de la maladie en question, non traités, par exemple Medorrhinum. Ces souches sont par la suite traitées afin que tout risque sanitaire soit écarté, puis diluées et dynamisées comme tout médicament homéopathique.
