[A] type of white cane is the electronic white cane. This cane is equipped with sensors that detect objects and obstacles in the user's path. It can vibrate or make a sound to alert the user of potential hazards, helping them to navigate more safely.

Basée sur une technologie infrarouge associée à un faisceau laser, la canne blanche électronique permet l'anticipation d'obstacles jusqu'à 15 mètres. Elle signale un obstacle à son utilisateur par des vibrations d'intensités différentes. La détection d'obstacles se fait à hauteur des genoux (poteaux, voitures, passants) jusqu'à hauteur de visage (volets ouverts, panneaux de signalisation trop bas, rétroviseurs).
