Birch bark is used for a number of purposes including the construction of wigwams, baskets and canoes. In the summer months the bark of the birch is easily removed in large sheets, making it possible to create large birch bark canoes. Using a wooden frame held together with tree gum and spruce root, a canoe can be made of completely natural and biodegradable parts.
