Un système d'électrophorèse capillaire est constitué des éléments suivants: - un capillaire de silice fondue d'une longueur comprise entre 20 et 120 cm et d'un diamètre aillant de 10 à 200 pm, sert de support à la migration électrophorétique. La silice est recouverte à l'extérieur d'une fine couche de polymère, en général du polyimide, afin de lui assurer une résistance mécanique.
