The DIAG was established in 1995 to represent Indigenous public service employees from the Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Members of the DIAG share information with the Defence Team on Indigenous issues, provide advice on how DND/CAF policies and programs affect Indigenous members, and help promote successful interactions between the DND/CAF and Indigenous people across the country.

The Canadian Board Diversity Council (CBDC) is the leading Canadian organization advancing diversity on Canada's boards through research, network building, board training and best practice education. The Council's definition [of diversity] expands the traditional board definition of industry experience, management experience, functional area of expertise, education, geography and age to also include women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, people with disabilities and the LGBTQ+ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and other sexualities] community.
