The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) is one of the three Sectors of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The ITU-T was created on 1 March 1993 within the framework of the "new" ITU, replacing the former International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT) whose origins are over 100 years old. The ITU-T fulfils the purposes of the ITU relating to telecommunications standardization by studying technical, operating and tariff questions and adopting Recommendations on them with a view to standardizing telecommunications on a worldwide basis.

In 1956, the International Telephone Consultative Committee (CCIF) and the International Telegraph Consultative Committee (CCIT) were amalgamated to give rise to the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT).

Le Secteur de la normalisation des télécommunications de l'UIT (UIT-T) est l'un des trois Secteurs de l'Union internationale des télécommunications (UIT). L'UIT-T a été créé le 1er mars 1993 dans le cadre de la nouvelle structure de l'UIT, afin de remplacer l'ancien Comité consultatif international télégraphique et téléphonique (CCITT), dont les origines remontent à plus de cent ans. Les fonctions de l'UIT-T consistent à répondre à l'objet de l'Union concernant la normalisation des télécommunications, en effectuant des études sur des questions techniques, d'exploitation et de tarification et en adoptant des recommandations à leur sujet, en vue de la normalisation des télécommunications à l'échelle mondiale.

En 1956, le Comité consultatif international télégraphique (CCIT) et le Comité consultatif international téléphonique (CCIF) fusionnent pour donner naissance au Comité consultatif international télégraphique et téléphonique (CCITT) afin de mieux répondre aux exigences nées du développement de ces deux moyens de communication.
