Le CRÉA, Centre de recherche en économie agroalimentaire, a obtenu sa reconnaissance officielle du Conseil de l'Université Laval en juin 1997. En fait, le CRÉA remplace le Groupe de recherche agroalimentaire (GRAAL), traduisant ainsi l'évolution de la reconnaissance scientifique du GRAAL auprès de la communauté scientifique universitaire. La mission du CRÉA est de contribuer au développement et à la transmission des connaissances théoriques et empiriques de l'économie agroalimentaire, et à la formation de ressources humaines hautement qualifiées qui viendront contribuer à l'essor de la filière agroalimentaire.
