Pour les tirs en gradins ayant une hauteur supérieure à deux fois la largeur de la banquette, les méthodes utilisées dans divers pays, dans les exploitations classiques, reposent toutes sur les principes suivants : une surforation, une inclinaison, une charge de pied, une charge de colonne complète le chargement. Sa charge linéaire doit être au moins égale à la moitié de celle de la charge de pied si l'explosif est le même. L'utilisation d'explosif moins puissant et moins dense est généralement préférée à celle des bourrages intermédiaires toujours fastidieux à mettre en œuvre.
