L'utilisateur et le commerçant devront s'enregistrer auprès d'un intermédiaire. Le Netchex met en œuvre un compte factice (Shadow account) permettant l'identification du consommateur en amont et qui remplace les informations confidentielles du compte client. Ce système permet au client de générer ses propres chèques sur ordinateur personnel lesquels sont transmis par Internet au même système Netchex qui vérifie l'authenticité de ces chèques électroniques à travers sa base de données des membres. Ensuite, le compte factice est remplacé par les informations véritables concernant le compte du consommateur.
