In February 1994, the federal government announced the closure of several bases across Canada and established development funds to mitigate the impact of base closures on local economies. $7.5 million was committed to the creation of an economic development fund for the area affected by the Cornwallis military complex. En février 1994, le gouvernement fédéral annonçait la fermeture de plusieurs bases militaires, un peu partout au Canada, et créait un fonds de développement visant à atténuer les répercussions de ces fermetures de bases sur les économies locales. Une somme de 7,5 millions de dollars a été consacrée à la création d'un fonds de développement économique pour la région touchée par la fermeture du complexe militaire de Cornwallis.
