A sheet of heavy roofing felt coated on both sides with asphalt and on one side with mineral granules, mica, or other organic materials, used granule-side-up as a capping layer in a built-up roofing construction.

The modified bitumens, though classified as single ply membranes, are generally installed in two plies with a base sheet and cap sheet. The cap sheet is also used for base flashing. They may be torched or mopped on, heat welded or adhered with a self adhesive backing.

Une nouvelle membrane bitumineuse unicouche et modifiée a été appliquée sur la marquise et assortie d'un nouveau dalot métallique à joints soudés et d'un tuyau de chute descendant jusqu'au sol. La pente a été ajustée pour drainer l'eau loin du mur du bâtiment. On a installé des feuilles de finition et des contre-solins approuvés. Le contre-solin a été retourné vers le haut, au mur de l'immeuble et à la bordure du périmètre.

Les bitumes modifiés, bien qu'ils soient classés comme des membranes monocouches, sont généralement posés en deux épaisseurs : couche de base et couche de finition. La couche de finition sert également de solin de base. Ce produit peut être soudé au chalumeau, collé à la vadrouille, thermosoudé ou collé par un endos autoadhésif.
