Partie de la dérive nord-pacifique issue de la rencontre du Kuroshio et de l'Oyashio. Orienté vers le nord-est parallèlement aux îles Aléoutiennes, entre le 40o et le 50o N, le courant se divise en deux branches dont l'une pénètre dans la mer de Béring et l'autre se dirige vers les côtes de l'Alaska. Son influence est celle d'un courant chaud.
