The Geographic Board of Canada was set up in 1897 and was succeeded by the Canadian Board on Geographic Names on August 3, 1948. In 1961, the responsibility of naming places was transferred to the provinces, and the names authority was reorganized as the Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names (CPCGN) on July 13, 1961. Since 1979, the authority for naming in Indian reserves, national parks, and military reserves is jointly held by the appropriate federal department and the province concerned. In 1984, the territories in turn assumed responsibility for naming the entities in their own jurisdiction. In March 2000, the national coordinating body for toponymic activities became the Geographical Names Board of Canada (GNBC).

CTC/Canadian Test Centre is a wholly Canadian-owned and operated educational assessment service and publisher. CTC has developed three nationally standardized tests: Canadian Achievement Tests, Canadian Test of Cognitive Skills and Canadian Achievement Survey Tests for Adults. These tests are widely used by schools and colleges across Canada and outside Canada where a Canadian curriculum is taught. Since 1980, CTC has acquired broad experiences in publishing, project management and large-scale data management. CTC has provided educational assessment services at the federal, provincial and district levels, as well as to colleges in both the public and private sectors.
