The BC Treaty Commission (BCTC) was created in September 1992 through an agreement between the Government of Canada, the Government of British Columbia and the First Nations Summit (the Principals), whose members represent the majority of First Nations in British Columbia. The Commission received statutory recognition through the Treaty Commission Act passed by the Legislature of British Columbia in April 1993 and through the BC Treaty Commission Act passed by the federal government in December 1995, both of which were proclaimed in force in March 1996. La Commission des traités de la Colombie-Britannique (CTCB) a été créée en septembre 1992 à la suite d'une entente entre le gouvernement du Canada, le gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique et le Sommet des premières nations (les principaux), dont les membres représentent la majorité des premières nations en Colombie-Britannique. La Commission a reçu sa reconnaissance statutaire à travers la Loi sur la Commission des traités passée par la législature de Colombie-Britannique en 1993 et la Loi sur la Commission des traités de la Colombie-Britannique passée par le gouvernement fédéral en décembre 1995, les deux prenant effet en mars 1996.
