The National Occupational Classification (NOC) replaces Canada's previous occupational classification systems, the Canadian Classification and Dictionary of Occupations (CCDO) and the closely-related 1980 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) of Statistics Canada. The NOC presents a new structure for analyzing and understanding the labour market and reflects occupational changes that have taken place over the past two decades. It also addresses problems with the CCDO that became evident when it was used for economic analysis.
