Cuivrage mince ou en sous-couche. Ce type de cuivrage est le plus répandu industriellement par le nombre d'applications. Les bains de cuivrage cyanuré y trouvent leur domaine d'utilisation principale et dans une moindre mesure les bains au pyrophosphate, pour constituer la sous-couche de cuivre sur alliages de zinc moulés, alliages d'aluminium ou aciers. Ce cuivrage précède alors le nickelage, l'étamage ou d'autres dépôts. Il sert à prévenir des dépôts par déplacement non adhérents, à réduire plus ou moins des irrégularités de surfaces (nivellement), à améliorer la résistance à la corrosion par réduction de la porosité [...] et à limiter la fragilisation par l'hydrogène.
