The length or width of various sections of the body is divided into a specific number of equal parts, each part being termed one cun. Obviously, the length of the cun depends on the structure of the individual, whether fat or thin, tall or short, and will vary accordingly. (Acupuncture and Moxibustion, 1987, p. 63).

Cun is the acupuncture unit of measurement ... the distance between the ends of the outer folds (thumb side) formed at the articulations of the first and second phalanges of the fully flexed middle finger. (Acupuncture Therapy, 1972, p. 27).
