Le compactage à haute pression [...] est utilisé pour porter les déchets compressibles à leur densité maximale. Les forces mises en jeu peuvent atteindre jusqu'à 1 500 tonnes. L'effet optimum est obtenu lorsque tous les vides au sein du matériau ont été éliminés [...]. Le déchet compact obtenu est en général disposé dans un conteneur dans lequel il est directement immobilisé dans du béton, dans du bitume ou dans un polymère. La figure 9 montre le schéma de principe de l'installation de compactage (presse de 250 t) et d'enrobage des déchets FA/MA du CEN Cadarache.
