Distance runners use the standing start to begin a race. A standing start uses the same movements used naturally to walk or run.

CONT

A crouched start is more effective than a standing start as it places the sprinter in a position to move the centre of gravity well ahead of the feet and thus the runner must accelerate very quickly or else fall.

DÉPART DEBOUT : Le pied est placé juste derrière la ligne et l'autre pied est posé derrière, à une distance égale à la largeur des épaules. Le poids du corps repose sur le pied avant. Le bras opposé à la jambe avant est immédiatement placé pour respecter la synchronisation bras-jambe. La poussée se fait avec le pied avant. Le commandement est «À vos marques! Partez!». Il n'y a pas de commande «Prêts!».
