Dáesh; Daish: La Fundación del Español Urgente (Fundéu BBVA), con el asesoramiento de la Real Academia Española, indica que "Dáesh" y "Daish" son formas sugeridas en los foros internacionales [para evitar llamar a este grupo de "estado" ya que no se lo reconoce como tal]. "Daish" es la que se ajusta mejor a la pronunciación y al desarrollo original, pues la "i" correspondería a Irak, aunque también se ha propuesto la grafía con "e", "Daesh", que conviene adaptar al español como "Dáesh".

Estado Islámico de Irak y el Levante; Estado Islámico de Irak y Siria: La Fundación del Español Urgente (Fundéu BBVA), con el asesoramiento de la Real Academia Española, indica que el nombre que se ha atribuido ese grupo es "Estado Islámico de Irak y el Levante", preferible a "Estado Islámico de Irak y Siria", ya que el nombre árabe no se refiere a la Siria actual, sino a la región de la Siria histórica que en español se conoce tradicionalmente como el Levante.

EIIL; ISIS: La Fundación del Español Urgente (Fundéu BBVA), con el asesoramiento de la Real Academia Española, indica que la sigla adecuada en español es "EIIL", preferible a "ISIS", formada a partir del nombre de ese grupo en inglés ("Islamic State of Iraq and Syria").
