[...] malgré son sens relativement étroit dans la langue courante, le verbe alléguer recouvre, dans la langue juridique, essentiellement la même notion que le verbe anglais «to allege». Toutefois, contrairement à «to allege», le verbe alléguer ne s'applique qu'à des faits et non pas à des personnes. Ainsi, on peut dire les faits allégués par la défense, mais pas le meurtrier allégué, calque de l'anglais «alleged murderer».
