Le bâtiment consomme une quantité considérable de profilés, qu'on peut regrouper en deux grandes catégories : les profilés métallurgiques (acier, aluminium, alliage cuivreux), et les profilés plastiques (polyéthylène, polystyrène, néoprène). NB- Les éléments en bois à profil constant sont des moulures, plutôt que des profilés.
