La foration percutante classique est pratiquement limitée à un diamètre d'environ 4" (...) mais les marteaux fond-de-trou permettent d'obtenir des diamètres beaucoup plus grands. Un marteau fond-de-trou permet également de forer des trous plus droits qu'un marteau hors-trou, même dans des roches fissurées ou endommagées.
