In the past, the processing of an HTML form has required the user to fill out various elements of the form, then click on a Submit button. This causes the filled-out form to be transported to a server for processing by a CGI script. User feedback awaits a round-trip over the network, which can take several seconds.

Par le passé, pour traiter un formulaire HTML, l'utilisateur devait remplir différents champs, puis cliquer sur le bouton Submit pour faire acheminer le formulaire rempli vers un serveur où il était traité par un script CGI. L'utilisateur devait donc attendre que le formulaire fasse un trajet aller-retour sur le réseau, ce qui pouvait prendre plusieurs secondes.
