Cette fouille est obtenue en réalisant, au-delà de l'emprise, des parois sous l'angle de talus naturel (3/2 ou même 1/1 parfois), ce qui implique naturellement : de disposer au sol de la surface nécessaire à l'emprise, augmentée des têtes de talus; de dégager, stocker pendant la durée du chantier, puis remettre en place ultérieurement le volume des terres, parfois très important, correspondant au volume des talus. Dans cette hypothèse il n'est nul besoin de tenir les parois.
