Ne pas confondre avec la partie jouée en simple où deux paires de partenaires s'affrontent, chaque golfeur frappant sa propre balle, ou avec le sens habituel de «foursome», soit le groupe de quatre golfeurs prenant le départ à une heure donnée pour jouer une partie de golf.

OBS

Le terme «foursome» est un anglicisme au Canada, quel que soit le sens qu'on lui accole. Lorsque quatre joueurs prennent le départ, ils sont un «quatuor» jouant individuellement ou jouent une partie en simple ou en double.

OBS

L'office de la langue française recommande l'utilisation de «quatuor» pour remplacer l'anglicisme «foursome», une recommandation suivie par la presse parlée et écrite mais peu populaire chez les golfeurs. Quant au terme «quadrette», jadis recommandé, il demeure impropre pour le golf puisqu'il désigne plutôt le groupe de quatre joueurs à des jeux de boule comme la pétanque.
