Gasterophilus haemorrhoidalis, la hembra ataca violentamente al huésped en la región de la nariz, donde adhiere sus huevecillos a los pelos finos de los labios. Las larvas completamente desarrolladas a principios de la primavera se mueven del estómago a la parte posterior del tracto digestivo cerca del ano, donde se fijan temporalmente, para finalmente caer al suelo con las heces.
