La norme MIDI : Cette norme a été mise au point pour permettre aux ordinateurs et aux instruments de musique électroniques de communiquer entre eux [...] Le standard MIDI reconnaît 16 canaux pour jouer les sons, chaque canal ne jouant qu'un son à la fois. Chaque constructeur d'instruments propose ses sonorités propres. Pour améliorer la compatibilité (musicale et non technique) entre les instruments, la norme évolue vers un standard appelé «général MIDI» qui codifie les types de son avec un numéro de programme de 1 à 127 C11 pour le vibraphone 21 pour l'accordéon, 40 pour le violon, 66 pour le saxophone ténor ...).
