A unit of energy, used primarily in high energy physics, equal to 10 [to the 9th power] electron volts or (1.60210 + or - 0.00007) x 10 [to the -10th power] joules.

OBS

GeV is the symbol for this unit, however the symbol Gev (with the lower case "v") does not obey the convention on the formation of SI symbols

électronvolt [...] Unité d'énergie (symb. eV) utilisée principalement en physique atomique et moléculaire, égale à l'énergie acquise par un électron lorsqu'il est accéléré par unE différence de potentiel de 1 volt. (Par ex., l'énergie d'ionisation de l'atome d'hydrogène est de 13,6 eV.)

OBS

En physique nucléaire, on utilise couramment le kiloélectronvolt (keV), unité [1000] fois plus grande, et le mégaélectronvolt (MeV), unité [1 000 000) fois plus grande, mieux adaptés aux énergies propres à ce domaine.
