[Les grauwackes de décalcification] n'ont aucun lien de parenté avec les grauwackes proprement dits. Ce sont des pélites ayant contenu à l'origine de nombreux restes d'organismes calcaires (encrines, polypiers, brachiopodes, lamellibranches) qui ont disparu au voisinage de la surface par décalcification. On aboutit ainsi à une roche cariée où les fossiles ne sont plus représentés que par leur moule en creux. Bien connus dans les Ardennes et le Massif schisteux rhénan.
