Il demande ensuite au consommateur de répondre par courriel ou de se rendre à un site Web qui imite celui de la véritable entreprise. Cette supercherie contribue à faire croire au consommateur qu'il répond à une requête légitime. Sans le savoir, il peut envoyer ses renseignements bancaires aux escrocs, qui s'en servent pour commander des produits et des services ou pour utiliser son crédit.
