L'action de la calcitonine est essentiellement une action osseuse : la calcitonine diminue la résorption osseuse ostéoclastique en diminuant immédiatement l'activité et, à plus long terme, le nombre d'ostéoclastes. [...] Cette action anti-ostéoclastique entraîne chez les sujets présentant un haut remodelage osseux (sujets jeunes, sujets pagétiques, etc...) une diminution transitoire de la calcémie, survenant habituellement 2 heures après l'administration du Calcitar, et maximale entre la 4e et la 6e heure.
