The Internet Engineering Task Force (HETF) develops and promotes Internet standards, cooperating closely with the W3C [World Wide Web Consortium] and ISO/IEC [International Electrotechnical Commission] standard bodies. [It deals] in particular with standards of the TCP/IP [Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol] and Internet protocol suite. It is an open all-volunteer standards organization, with no formal membership or membership requirements.
