L'immersion physique n'est pas toujours nécessaire. Il existe en fait deux relations possibles à l'image : soit on est «dans l'écran», grâce au casque; soit on est devant l'écran, physiquement, mais «dans» l'écran mentalement : cette position suffit largement pour nombre d'applications du virtuels.
